Dear Community Members,

Jersey Medical Care is closed today, Wednesday, June 19th, in observance of Juneteenth. This holiday celebrates the emancipation of African Americans who were enslaved in the United States.

Juneteenth is a time to learn about the history of slavery, recognize the resilience of Black people, and reflect on the bravery of individuals committed to equity and social justice. This day offers us an opportunity to connect as a community, and hear the experiences of our Black neighbors. Connecting through understanding fosters empathy, compassion, and ultimately creates psychological safety for all.

To honor Juneteenth, we encourage you to engage in activities that promote unity, education, and self-reflection:

  1. Educate Yourself: Learn more about Juneteenth’s history and significance through articles, documentaries, or online resources.

  2. Foster Dialogue: Have respectful conversations about Juneteenth with colleagues, friends, and family to promote understanding and equality.

  3. Support Black-Owned Businesses: Show solidarity by supporting Black-owned establishments.

This year, we have gathered a list of Black-owned businesses in New Jersey and resources to celebrate Black Joy in our community! Please click the button below to support these amazing businesses!

With Gratitude,
Marina V. Plantz
